He returns home to find Kyra in the bathtub and is attacked by Max's assistant who tries to kill them both.

So as the movie begins, we begin with a drowning.
We see establishing shots of Darkscore Lake.
It's beautiful looking.
It's haunting.
And the cast list rolls out.
We see Pierce Brosnan, Annabeth Gish, Matt Frewer, Melissa George, Jason Priestley, which I did not expect to see.
We're treated to more images of the water, flashbacks to earlier decades.
We see Sarah laughs, the lake house.
There's a sense of danger, but you don't know why.
Where is the danger coming from?
Is there someone in the house?
Something in the house?
With the credits having concluded, the camera continues to sweep and swoop over the lake, through the trees, before there's one final image of a drowning, which we learn is a dream, a nightmare, from Annabeth Gish's Joe, who had previously starred in McGarris' Desperation, as she wakes up to help celebrate the conclusion of the writing of Mike Noonan, her husband's latest book.
They have the tradition that she types the conclusion as he narrates it to her.
