And also, we'll continue to look at ways to improve the team.
And if that means, you know, potentially talking about trading from an area of depth in order to address another roster need, it's something that we're going to be willing to hear out and be open-minded to.
We talked at the beginning of the off-season that free agency and trades and internal development were three ways to improve our team.
And we'll try to leverage all three.
Sure, defense is a significant contributor to run prevention, right?
We tend to get caught up in the pitching side of this, but there are other key components as well, defense being the most obvious.
And so it's really important that we improve our defense, particularly our infield defense.
I would argue we have the best defensive outfield in baseball, but we led the league in errors last year and our out conversion needs to be improved.
I think there are some things that we've already started to do internally to reprioritize that, but also any additions that we may make, we'll be very mindful of the defensive skillset.
Sure, so we are having a bunch of conversations, and you're right, we've got to not just kind of chart option A, but also B, C, D, and on, but we had the chance to see up close what Alex can bring to a clubhouse, what he can bring to the field.
He emerged as a leader, especially a leader amongst those young players, and
His impact on our team was huge.
And so we obviously remain engaged in conversations, but exactly how things will go, we're not sure.
Right.
for that picture that you needed sure um you know he was he was somebody that we had interest in um but you know it's early in the off season and there's interest across a whole span of players um but you know i just think it could make sense given our interest in building the best team we possibly can in 2026 and that uh you know potentially lining up with
with what St.
Louis is trying to accomplish.
And when you think about, you know, what Sonny has been in this league, it's a, it's a guy who's pitched at the front of rotations and, you know, those things that we think pitchers carry from year to year, things like strikeout rates and walk rates and ability to, you know, to stay off barrels.
He excels there.
So we're really excited about adding a guy that, you know, is coming off back to back 200 strikeout seasons and, you know, shouldering significant workload.
