Sometimes it's really important to go backwards in order to go forward.
What lessons have you learned over the last year of making content?
That's from Jordi McKay.
I'm going with that one now because we've just been talking about last season and a lot of what we talked about are the things that we've thought quite a bit and talked a lot about internally but what have you learned?
Pretty Much Warm Up, the reason why is because we noticed that it's obviously a really popular show.
Ian's one of our most popular contributors.
You have to see that on the internet with us.
But in the analytics, we could see that...
everyone was listening and very few were watching.
But we were putting a lot of time and resource into the video, which was affecting the sound quality for all of the people that were listening on the audio and then also using things like tactics boards and stuff like that for the audio.
It just never quite sounded the way we wanted to.
having those voices be front and center and then when we are uh in a position to to do a video to make it ambitious we love doing the robertson documentary we love doing that sort of work and i think that that's is that all fair yeah yeah well dan marshall's asked why have audio podcasts become more video led not just yours but everyone yeah take a podcast becoming a thing uh was the fact you could listen to them whilst doing something else the global trend of focusing on video seems a regressive step so a lot of the
So a lot of what we tried to do last year around the idea of maybe tall TV without saying outwardly was because of that trend.
And I think it's one of these, it's one of the few times that I'll say this on camera, which is that it's one of those times where marketing and driving something's maybe not a good thing for the product at the end of it.
Because I think like, if you look throughout the industry, the reason why it's driven more towards video is because
YouTube's algorithm serves your videos to help you find new people.
So one of the things that we noticed from the data last year was that more people were consuming, and I say consuming, not watch on purpose, but more people were consuming our Anfield Rap flagship podcast on YouTube than all of our audio platforms put together.
so um and one of the reasons for that is because you've got youtube's algorithm and i think also looking back one of the reasons is that maybe what people do now with podcasts is that they have them on their tv but in the background while you're doing uh something else second screen yeah second screen so it's it's almost like linear tv days i think where like you put on channel one channel two channel you might have something that's on the background you don't have to watch it you dip in you dip out you're listening and that kind of thing um but
ultimately has been driven by marketing because of clips and because that's how they promote podcasts and find new audiences.
I think it's interesting because obviously what you're almost talking about here, Dan, is how things have become so blurred.
