Hello, Bronwyn.
Yes, I I think um I mean as Alex says, the real concern is, if you like, not that the investment won't ultimately be useful.
I mean, I personally have no doubt that we will need all the computing power that's currently being created and probably more.
It's the question of whether the the big tech firms that are investing now may be going too fast.
So it's something like one trillion dollars that the five biggest tech firms will invest between twenty twenty five, twenty twenty
And the estimates have that sort of rising to three to four trillion a year by twenty thirty.
And the difficulty is that this is not now being funded, if you like, just through the revenue that companies make from advertising and so on.
It's also being funded through private equity, private credit, and bond issuance.
And a further concern is that there's a kind of circularity.
So in a sense, the chip producers, the big tech hyperscalers as they're called, invest in AI firms.
That then demand the services and products that the chip producers and the hyperscalers produce.
And there's a concern that somehow this circularity makes the whole thing more vulnerable.
I mean, my view is no.
I think AI is a truly remarkable invention.
I mean, the estimates as to what it's going to mean for productivity growth in the economy over the long term, I mean, the central estimate is actually quite small.
It's about 0.5% per year, additional productivity growth, but there's a great range about that.
But I I don't have any doubt in a sense that we will find a way to use this new computing power.
And there are actually precedents.
I mean, if you look at
at the dot com bubble and previous cases of massive investment in new innovations, some of the companies involved may well have, you know, misjudged how to invest, how to fund it and so on and got into problems.
