Across the state, in Memphis, residents have sounded the alarm about air pollution from Elon Musk's XAI supercomputer.
So Nashville's city council members, like Roland Horton, are trying to ban data centers of that size outright.
If approved by the council, the legislation would also enact building and operating restrictions on data centers of all sizes.
Similar legislation has been passed in places including Atlanta, New Orleans, and Minneapolis.

A January ice storm left hundreds of thousands of Nashville residents without power, some for more than a week.
So the Nashville Electric Service is trying to bury power lines in some neighborhoods.
But this is a contentious approach.
Some experts, like utility contractor Wade Sexton, say it's really only effective if implemented system-wide, which can be expensive.
Other places, like San Diego and some Florida cities, have been burying lines to help guard against power outages caused by wildfires and hurricanes.

Dalton Etherly, who is white, allegedly shot and wounded a black man outside a courthouse in Montgomery County, Tennessee earlier this month.
He had also been arrested on different charges days earlier, after Etherly allegedly became disruptive and made racial statements at a restaurant in Nashville, and then refused to pay for his meal.
Etherly's case has stoked debate over free speech.
Under the name Chud the Builder, he has garnered a following for posting hate-filled interactions on social media.
Since his arrest, his followers have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support him and his family.

Nashville is looking to recover taxpayer dollars it spent responding to a surge in opioid addiction and overdoses.
In the suit, the city alleges that Publix conspired to distribute substantial amounts of opioid prescriptions while knowing that they were being trafficked or used illegally.
City officials filed the lawsuit in federal court this month.
