So that you can really help them learn what they are capable of learning in that moment.
Sit stays.
I mean, are you talking about behaviors or just general training stuff?
Yeah.
Because they're kind of different, right?
So the common behaviors are going to be sit stays, recalls, motivation and engagement type stuff, contacts, anything that requires training.
But conceptually, usually the real problem is the owner, the trainer, they're not confident enough.
That's not even a good way to put it.
they kids are a lot better at this kind of thing often because they don't care they don't care about screwing up and adults often are so wrapped up in am i gonna do it right am i gonna do it wrong what is my peer group gonna think about me does my dog love me i want to put my best foot forward that they're not even really paying attention to what's happening just overthinking to the point that
Right.
So there's that that's, that's a pretty common one.
And then once you get beyond that, helping people be comfortable saying, you're going to say yes to this, and you're going to say no to this.
what if it's my fault okay well that's not really your concern in the moment you still have to inform the dog that this was not right you're not ascribing blame it's okay to say no even if you don't know whether it was your fault or the dog's fault you still can say this is not how it was supposed to go i'm not telling you you're a loser i'm just saying that's not right we still need to reset correct
That that can be interestingly enough, so I've got I got a good story for you.
Because this is this is a prevalent problem in agility.
So two years ago,
i decided i wanted to i was doing a little bit more bite work with my border collies because it was fun and i wanted to train them for mondio which involves a down stay right so i thought all right the weather was crappy i'm going to go downstairs and i'm just going to start to work on some duration with a sit stay and all i wanted to do
was ask for a sit and delay any marker cue or reinforcement for three seconds.
That was it.
So I asked for a sit and I stood there and I did nothing with the first dog.
