It's only a punishment if it's associated with something.
And it could be associated with you getting angry at the dog, but that doesn't really help the dog know what to do with it.
So these days, in some situations, my no reward marker means return to the beginning.
In other situations, my no reward marker means stop dead in your tracks and await further instruction.
And in other situations, the no reward marker just means I don't care what you do, just don't do that.
And I get that there are procedures out there to like, oh, I could teach my dog a retrieve and I'm not ever going to use any aversive.
Okay, well, first of all, I call bullshit because you're at least going to use negative punishment.
Sorry.
And it's only going to take a year and a half.
But you could teach this in a week.
Why would you take a year and a half to teach this?
So that that kind of hits at it for hits at the root of some of this for me, because at the end of the day, I really don't care how you accomplish the dog training that you want to accomplish.

But don't lie to people.
