Yeah, absolutely.

Lovely to see the weather, see people out enjoying the national park.

But yeah, it's a high fire risk period at the moment.

So yeah, time of increased vigilance for us.

Our efforts in the next number of days really will be concentrating on patrolling for fires, monitoring.

That includes aerial monitoring where we'll have helicopter flights to patrol the national park.

With fires, early detection is key.

The longer you leave them, obviously, the bigger the fire is going to be.

Absolutely.

I'm 25 years with the Wildlife Service.

I think in my early years, we probably had 20-plus fires a year.

This year, we had two years now with fire-free, and unfortunately, this year, we had three.

So we don't want to go back to those early days.

I think people are more responsible now, but it'll be disappointing to see our recent fire.

Well, I suppose that's a positive in one sense.

The fires don't start naturally in Ireland.

Any fires we have are either deliberately set or accidentally set.

Many of them that we have in the uplands are probably deliberately set for agricultural improvement.
