This is 1957, when he was 21.
He was actually charged with attempting to shoot four civic guards with a revolver in Bray.
He was attempting to break into a garage and commit a robbery.
So he was arrested that morning and remained in prison for the few months awaiting trial.
At the trial, he was convicted of four charges.
Maliciously shooting at GardaΓ with a loaded revolver.
He got five years for that charge.
unlawful possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, he got two years for that, possession of a revolver and ammunition without holding a firearm certificate, another 12 months with hard labour, and finally a conviction for breaking and entering, and he gets another 12 months for that.
So it came to a fairly hefty nine years of jail time in total.

A 20-year-old plumber was remanded for a week in custody at Dublin District Court.
He was charged with possession of a rifle and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
It didn't actually report the reason for it.
The follow-up from that in November of 65 was that this guy who pointed the rifle at him, he received a six-month prison sentence.
