One of which is to have uh decent race and racing that's worth watching, that that people will um, you know, uh want want to see and and commercial entities will uh then pay to to be involved in.
Uh huh.
So yeah, you could make it totally purist and just say, yes, it is a technical sport and that's all it is, it's only only technology and it would very, very quickly
quickly become a highly specialized thing that nobody watched, just all you know, a a few techie nerds that that you know, there would there would there be some fascinating stuff going on, but very few people be interested in it.
Yeah, well it was Bernie's team, so he was actually going against the own competitive interests of his team and that gives you an insight into his how he understood the commercial, the bigger picture, the commercialization of the sport. 'Cause as a team owner, if he'd just been one of the if it'd been Frank Williams or Ron Dennis or something, if they had come up with an advantage like that, they would have said, Yeah, let's bring it it's let's go, let's go and uh they would have dominated every race and uh take the other
There's a while to catch up.
But Bernie had a bigger picture and he thought, Mm, we're trying to make the whole cake bigger, that's not gonna help.
So no, I I'm not gonna enter it anymore.
That's that's what the competition mainly is now, because the the pre regulations have become so much more prescriptive, the uh the challenge is now finding a way around the wording to achieve the effect that you're looking for.
And when it's accepted that yes, we didn't think of that as uh uh uh interpretation, but yeah, it it it it is valid, one of two things then happens.
Usually uh
Um it it can be kept.
The team that's got it can can have it and have got the benefit of it and anybody can copy it um, you know, for the rest of the season, but it's banned from it's subsequently banned from the next season.
Or it's just a tech director goes out and say, No, we we're not happy with this interpretation and it's no longer valid, you'll have to change your cars.
Um so y yeah, that's that that is
I think there was good reason before the franchise system came in and the budget cap came in for saying, Yeah, that's what we've got to have because sixty, seventy percent of these teams are on the verge of financial ruin trying to keep up with the well funded ones.
And this innovation from a big team is gonna require so much investment from these little teams they're gonna go out of business.
So we can't
I think now you've got a much more equitable commercial
um p you know, environment, um, with a cost cap in place and with, you know, a better distribution of income.
