Always good, always good to have a chat with the eminently sensible Adam White on Thursday.
Yeah, well, it looks like the Stars are going to play a game at the Junction Oval as well, and the Stars have played games there in the past, a handful four or five years ago now, including one infamous COVID-riddled match where they had to stand together at the last minute.
So, look, it's not unprecedented.
I suppose with the Renegades, it's a bizarre situation because Junction Oval is obviously the ground owned by Cricket Victoria, and it's their fortress, and
It's sort of bizarre at a time when Cricket Victoria is washing its hands of the Renegades that the Renegades will actually play at the Cricket Victoria run ground.
So I suppose you might have a quirky situation where Cricket Australia might be paying rent to Cricket Victoria to pay.
I'm not sure exactly how that'll look.
I suspect there'll be some sort of arrangement found.
But look, it's been a real saga.
I mean, with both teams, particularly the Renegades.
I remember hearing back sort of around maybe September or so last year
that both their deals in both Geelong and Docklands Marble Stadium were both up at the end of the most recent season that just finished earlier this year.
And I suppose they were somewhat of a crossroads.
There was talk of potentially them playing more games in Geelong, but clearly what's happened along the road with CV, as I said, washing its hands of the renegades, merging the administration and coaching staff of the two clubs and putting the renegades up for sale all the way up,
That's all been halted for the time being, given the various conditions that need to be met for BBL privatisation to proceed.
But the upshot is a couple of games at the Junction, a couple of games at the MCG, almost certainly, and then that one in Chennai, which will be finally officially confirmed tomorrow with Narendra Modi in town, Indian Prime Minister, along with Anthony Albanese.
So, look, I suppose it's probably not necessarily the worst thing
because there would be some concerns as to how much appetite there will be for people to watch the Renegades, given they are in this limbo situation, then put into caretaker mode and then run by Max Abbott, the former Stars GM, and effectively under the auspices of Cricket Australia.
But, yeah, by the same token, as much as the two of us love spending time at the Junction, is it too small, and it's got lights now as well, but is it too small for regular big-bash cricket?
