And then after about five years in the regiment, was selected for Duntroon.

eight-year soldier and then graduated into regimental service in one hour, re-attended selection as an officer and then spent most of my regimental service sort of through the 90s, early 2000s as a captain and a squadron commander in the regiment.
And then went down the officer career path, Canberra Central, some postings and more senior appointments in Special Ops Command and in Afghanistan.

2010 as a Director Colonel and 4-5 as the Special Operations J-3, which is a Senior Planning Officer, Lieutenant Colonel, Plans Officer.
Duncan was the Special Ops Commander.
This is just at the end of 9-11.
That sort of command grew very quickly.
I was a principal staff officer in that headquarters then.
They returned as a colonel, returned as a brigadier later.
Yeah.
My time as the Deputy Special Operations Commander was in 2012, which is arguably the most difficult year of the war for a whole range of reasons.

We were let down massively by the senior leadership.
It wasn't the Australian public who jacked on us.
It was our own senior leadership, and that's a really tough place to be, as you know, mate.
