And back in the 80s and corruption in Joe Bielke, we're talking about government conflicts of interest and lack of competence and negligence and performance of institutional decay.
We didn't see it.
We got all this internal, well, you've read his books, yeah?
And I think David McCarthy says it really well in a documentary about the media's conduct through Afghanistan.
Now, and the ADF, senior leadership, they didn't want, they want to shut the media down, mate.
And that's not the way, you know, in Anzac, you know the reason the Anzacs got pulled out of Gallipoli when it was such a shit fight, because Murdoch's generation, the media wrote, said this is bullshit, it's a shit fight, we've got to get out of here.
So the media have a really important role, and in the Australian military, of highlighting what the hell's happened and telling the public the truth, right?
And that's the way it's always been.
and the government, through censorship, have done some shutdown.
But we didn't see that, mate.
We saw the media go in there and run their own agenda.
They weren't about telling the public what the war was happening in Afghanistan, and the ADF didn't want them to because they could manage the narrative.
And as a senior officer, managing the narrative is very important, isn't it?
