Yeah, absolutely.

And 8th Div to the south are a victim of that, of course, because the failure of one unit is inevitably going to expose flanks on both sides of the division.

So 32nd Div, given a really tough task, they're having to move their way up and try and fight their way through the village of Tietvao.

They're repulsed fairly early in the day, understandably, given just how tough a nut to crack Tietvao is.

But that being repulsed in turn exposes 36th Div to their north and 8th Div to their south.

And even zooming down on a lower level as we come to round off the northern side of this battle for this episode spent, even down on individual levels the failure of a single battalion can likewise expose the battalions to its flank or an individual brigade and you get this kind of domino effect.

So one failure on a battalion level can lead to a failure on a brigade level and so on and so on and so on.

And that's exactly what we see in the south.

And I just want to finish with a final mention to a battalion in the middle sect who go over the top, not far north of part of the road of the famous Roman road.

So right at the bottom part of our sector for this episode, they're commanded by a man by the name of Edwin Sandys.

who's a well-respected commander.

He's already been wounded unbelievable five times by 1916 and has already earned the DSO for the Battle of Loos in 1915.

He knows his stuff.

He knows his men.

He cares about them.

Unfortunately, sometimes the cards you're dealt in a battle like this are just not good.

In fact, he recognises this very early on in the fight.

Bear in mind, the entire front is divided up and there is not a single inch of ground with the exception of a tiny bit of the river Onca that's not going to be attacked on that open day.

And if your battalion happens to be in a really tough bit of ground, that might just be tough luck.

Because if you don't go over the top, the flanks of either battalion to your side are going to be wide open.
