because you have a very large workforce that's already on the clock. They're already getting paid. It doesn't cost you anymore to use them. All you got to do is move them places, and they're really good at it. They're the best in the world at it, as a matter of fact. It already exists. And one of the things, I wrote one of my master's thesis on this after Katrina.
One of the lessons we learned was, why are you trying to recreate these distribution wheels? Why are you trying to do that? Walmart and Amazon exist. Fucking use them. Call them. Get them on the phone. They've got all the water and diapers you need, buddy, I promise you. They'll never run out either. And they have trucks to get them there.
All you have to do is say, hey, we need X, and they'll have them there. I had a week or two ago one of the guys from Cajun Navy.
You would think? You mean Walmart?
Yeah, the Walmart Foundation does, but not on their own. They give a lot of money, but they don't give. They help people. So they help Cajun Navy set up a distribution center. that holds a lot of equipment, shit like that. But I don't think Amazon does anything. Now, Amazon's a useful tool.
If you're in a local community and you have a disaster, make an Amazon wish list and just put it on the internet. People like us will share it and you will get the stuff you need, I promise. And Amazon's quite a bit better at getting it there than the government typically is. But yeah, the DOD is already on staff. We have
If you include all the National Guards, we've got like 2 million people on staff. Why are we going out and paying? Why do we have an entire additional federal agency stood up that isn't even good at it?
The military?
That was so I can tell you the story if you'd like to hear it. Well, how long is it? Very brief.
So the governor, we were going back and forth on the phone with the governor of North Carolina at the time. He's gone now. He's a fucking idiot. He didn't know. He says he didn't know. What exactly am I supposed to do here? He was asking the NGO. What am I supposed to do here? It's like declare a state of emergency, cede control to the DOD. That's it. Then they'll take care of it.
No. Because one female colonel in the North Carolina National Guard, I can't remember her name, but fuck her, right? People are dead because of her. And I hope there's an investigation into this at some point and she goes to prison for the rest of her life. But she was in his ear the whole time. I had people from below her and above her telling me this, like in the National Guard there.
She was in this dude's ear like, no, don't give up control. We need to be the site commander. Why? Why? You're the fucking commander of a fucking North Carolina National Guard unit. You've got the 82nd Airborne down the road, which I was in, by the way. We specialize in jumping into places and setting up a city. That's what we do.
We jump in, seize an airfield, and set up medical, ammo supply, fucking security, comms, everything. We can jump in and within three days set up a fucking city, a functional city. That's like what we do. It's like what we're trained, the 82nd Airborne specialty is to do exactly that, right? Going behind enemy lines and set up a fucking base.
Now, how could that possibly be applicable to a city that's been wiped out?
It's the same thing. Get the fuck out of my way. Yeah. Like, this pride of authorship or whatever it is, like, I've got to be the one that solves it. Man, that's... It's ego.
I mean, there's, there's going to be an investigation at some point, but yeah, that's what happened. That's what happened. And, and, uh, you know, it's, it's unconscionable to think that we've got all these reasons. We're the richest country in the history of the world. We can fix that problem.
Right. We've already fixed it. Actually. We're just trying to fix it in a new way that includes civilians of the federal government instead of like when you were growing up, what were the national guard commercials? It was dude stacking sandbags. That was the national guard commercial. Like, Hey, come here and help your community. That was the fucking whole commercial.
