Humans probably stumbled upon it in different places at different times, most likely in the Middle East and Central Asia thousands of years ago.
Right.
And the scientists are like, that's definitely possible.
And clearly it's the yogurt.
So people are like, we got to get our hands on this stuff.
Totally.
Fountain of youth.
Thankfully, we don't have crazy health crazes like that anymore.
Sure.
Yeah, so like in 1920s France, if you wanted yogurt, you would actually buy it at a pharmacy.
Dannon was effectively the first global yogurt brand.
The founder, a Greek guy, had read all these studies coming out of the Pasteur Institute about the health benefits of yogurt.
Eventually, Dannon sets up shop in Paris, and on the marketing and branding front, this is where Bulgarian yogurt gets left in the dust.
And at first, Dannon just sold plain yogurt, like no sugar, no flavoring.
But that wasn't going to fly here.
I mean, this is around the same time sugar cereals were hitting the market.
What self-respecting American is going to eat plain yogurt when they could be eating Frosted Flakes?
So Dannon had to pivot.
Enter fruit on the bottom.
