A bomb cyclone has dumped about a foot of snow in some parts of North Carolina, making the snowfall one of the biggest in years.

Houston Democrat Kristen Menefee easily won a special election Saturday to win a seat in Congress.

Menefee will assume the seat that was held by the late Congressman Sylvester Turner, who died nearly 18 months ago.

His win narrowly gives the Republicans control of the House 218 seats.

The Democrats have 214.
