Why do we cling then to this story about the end of World War One, the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the Sykes Pico agreement, you know, these British and French journal diplomats drawing up borders, creating mod uh nation states, creating the modern Middle East? voice-verified

its own leaders, its own families, its own monarchies, its own dynasties that actually determine their own future and have real agency. voice-verified

We have to believe that these places are our are theaters that are expressions and extensions of our own politics and geopolitics. voice-verified
