But when you go and look at where the odds makers have the bears in terms of being a Super Bowl favorite, they're outside the top 10.
And so it's not like you need to have your ready-made Super Bowl finished product today.
Otherwise, you're in big trouble.
And so you're building towards sustaining success for the long term.
And so
In order to acquire Dexter Lawrence, there's a high asking price in terms of draft capital.
There's a high asking price in terms of his current contract.
There's a higher asking price in terms of his future extension.
And so those are all things that you have to take into account when you're assessing a situation like that.
Your team needs to try to figure out a way to build sustained success through drafting strong.
And then developing those players that you draft.
And so I think that they're kind of in this stage now where they've done a lot of investing in this roster over the last few years.
And now all of a sudden, as Grody and I have talked about a bunch, the improvement of the team sometimes has to come from the improvement within the team rather than going out and making a bunch of roster additions.
Well, you don't have β I get it.
They've got cards in their hand that they could play to restructure contracts and make cap space.
But right now, I think they're still the lowest available cap space in the league even before we get to the draft.
And so you don't have the luxury of playing those games.
You did that last year when you went out and you got Joe Tooney and Jonah Jackson and Drew Dahlman all within the span of a week.
And you made these β
huge investments and that those were the splashes you're just not allowed to do that every year if you were it would be a lot easier to sustain success in this league and I get it people people think it's really easy to press all the buttons and and all of a sudden voila you've got all this cap space there's sacrifices you have to make you would have had a trade a premium draft pick you would have had to uh make some hard decisions with your roster not only this year but in future years in terms of who you want to keep we just got done
