You know, Stephen King said, your life is not a support system for your art.
Your art is a support system for your life.
Like, my dad worked for the phone company all of his life.
He had no love for the phone company.
Right.
But his passion was hunting.
He loved hunting.
And he lived toβhe's still alive, but he lived to go huntingβ
And the phone company paid his rent and he fed his family.
And then when he had free time, he went hunting.
That was his life.
Happy as a clam.
You know, it's like if you go to the same factory and you pay your rent and then when you're not working, you're just sitting around eating Doritos wanting to kill yourself.
That's not great.
Yeah.
The summer of 1983, I bagged groceries at the Stop and Shop in Hyannis, Massachusetts.
I was at the same time on an HBO comedy special called Campus Comedy that I did as a freshman in college.
I would be bagging people's groceries and they would recognize me from being on TV the night before.
