And the only reason this account has an ending and not just a disappearance is that I had time and a town with a long memory and a sunrise.
I kept one of the tape strips.
I peeled it off the doorframe before we left and it's in my desk and I look at it sometimes.
no matter what you hear he ran out of room writing it he had so much to say and so little tape i understand the feeling there's no amount of tape that's enough and there's no way to write it so a stranger believes you and the bell is down now and in some snowbank or some drainage or under some new owner's porch waiting the way it waited under ours for the next careful frightened person to die and the next set of fools to inherit and the next hand on the rope
