that helps you really relax.
It doesn't have to be attention training or meditation or yoga or prayer.
It could be going out and walking in nature or playing with a pet or a kid.
It doesn't really matter what it is.
But what we found with research on stress
is that we can't always control the amount of stress in our lives.
If you're in a workplace, sometimes you can get things to change for the better so they're less stressful, but not always.
The question is, how do we live with stress?
How can we be resilient?
And what we found is that the stress puts our body in a state
uh called sympathetic nervous system activation it's the fight-or-flight response and your heart rate goes up and so on and if we never recover from that we burn out however if you have a daily time
that you schedule for recovery.
This is not a waste of time, by the way.
In our culture, it may seem like a waste of time.
It's actually really valuable time.
So if you find a way in your daily schedule
to go out and enjoy the dawn or the sunset or the people you love, that helps you get into a parasympathetic nervous system state, which is the recovery mode of the body, where you rest and replenish.
And having that daily is a really good antidote to stress.
The flow state is really a very high bar to reach for.
Technically, flow is that one time that you outdid yourself.
