This is something that tells us a bit about how the brain constructs reality from visual information.

I'm Dr Daniel Harvey from Bond University at the Gold Coast.
And what do you research, Daniel?
Well, generally speaking, the role of the brain in chronic pain, and I use virtual reality as one of my tools for that.
I'm also interested in sensory training.

It's actually quite remarkable that you can put a screen in front of someone, a virtual reality screen, and really transport them to an alternate reality.
There may be some potential use of virtual reality in pain treatment, but for the purpose of today, it's really about giving people an experience of altered sensory perception to sort of challenge our normal thoughts about how the brain works and how our feelings of the body work.
