On May 17, 1990, a federal indictment out of the Eastern District of New York comes down, and a nationwide sweep wrapping up the rest of the organization, thirty-four defendants arrested or sought in a single morning, and the DEA now describes the full organization in numbers, 200,000 pounds, hundred tons moved into this country across the decade, ten of it through Point Judith, thirty-five tons of it into Virginia between eighty-three and eighty-five, the rest through channels across the country.

And then back in Brooklyn, the man himself, as Howard Datz, pleads guilty to running a criminal enterprise.
The judge hands him eighty years concurrent, so it folds into the Rhode Island time, which gets significantly reduced for him cooperating.
And that same judge, five years from that sentencing, in the same Brooklyn courthouse, is going to be staring at another defendant, one implicated by Datts, who has just arrived voluntarily.

Not to spoil next week's episode, Bir Fridi is gonna end up serving forty-four months in American prison, then get sent home to Pakistan, where his seven year sentence doesn't arrive until ten weeks after September eleventh, and five days into him serving that sentence, he's gonna become a free man.
Uh and that's before you get sentenced to death.
We'll get deep into that next week, but we're not finished with Newton just yet.
The New York case also produces the big money number.
Uh for that case, Brooklyn's forfeiture judgment against Newton's fortune, this is his personal fortune, comes to roughly $51 million, which is the largest narcotics money forfeiture in American history to that point.
