Peggy again turns to her neighbours, the Nottinghams, in the dead of night.
The police were no use.
So this time, Vic's wife, who's also called Peggy, suggests calling the Daily Mirror newspaper.
Perhaps with their connections, the paper can find help for the family.
And so, at 2.30 a.m., a reporter called Doug Bentz and a photographer, Graham Morris, arrive at Green Street.
Initially, the house is still and quiet.
The men from the mirror wonder if this is all a wild goose chase.
But then, Vic Nottingham and Peggy Hodgson carry the children back in.
And as Janet comes through the door, the room erupts in a barrage of poltergeist activity.
Graham, the photographer, is hit by a projectile, a piece of Lego, so hard it leaves a mark.
He doesn't think it's a wild goose chase anymore.
From this night, the atmosphere in the house verges on hysteria.
Peggy is constantly frightened.
Janet and Billy jump at shadows.
Margaret's constantly on the edge of tears.
So the Mirror journalists do call for help.
From the Society for Psychical Research, or SPR, the world's oldest ghost-hunting institution, like a more respectable scientific Ghostbusters.
The FBI sent an investigator called Morris Gross, a retired inventor with an amazing handlebar mustache.
He arrives determined to document any activity with scientific rigor.
And he's joined by another investigator, Guy Lyon-Playfair, a poltergeist expert.
