They were pushing higher dosages.

And partly because not only was the drug addictive, but it would wear out, so it would stop being effective.

So you had to up the dose, right?

And, well, a higher dose is the same amount for them to manufacture, basically, but they charge twice as much.

Then you charge twice as much for the next, but it's basically the same manufacturing cost, right?

So it became...

Just a pure money-making operation.

And the drug I was talking about in the beginning, MS-Contin, was basically used as sort of – just as a cancer drug and as a hospice end-of-life drug.

Well, that's a very small market.

So the whole, the whole plan, the whole sort of conceit of OxyContin, the non-addictive opioid was how to break into the chronic pain market.

And they, then they pushed it into moderate pain, you know, for migraine headaches, you know, an addictive opioid for migraine headaches.

Right.

Yeah, and part of it was how they invented sort of, you know, lingo and language like breakthrough pain and individualize the dose, blame the abuser.

So it sort of sounds very legitimate, like these are medical researched claims.

And then you just keep using those words and then it becomes common.

Oh, yes, you have breakthrough pain.

So you clearly, that's not a problem.

You have to up the dose.

You just have to take more.
