And so that's how a society maintains legitimacy over time and becomes something that people are willing to march off by the millions to defend if that's what it comes down to.
And I think that that, unfortunately, again, over an incredibly short period of time has... I mean, think about how crazy this is.
Like, we went from all of human history, and I'm not talking about back to the Sumerians.

you know, homo erectus, basically.
People lived in a cohesive, coherent community among people who knew them and who they knew, who some of them watched them be born.
They would watch those people die.
I mean, they lived within a community that they were absolutely plugged into as a significant part of.
People lived...
all of human history that way up until like the 1950s or 60s and then we just in a generation that is completely evaporated so that people literally don't know the name of their neighbor that they live next to for years and they have no uh i mean even worse than that i mean their kids leave for college
And for the rest of your life, you see them once every two years on Christmas because one year they come see you and next year they have to go see the in-laws and that's it.
And maybe you hear from them on the phone once or twice a year.
That is something that...
You took something that was absolutely so fundamental to being human, the social environment that we literally evolved to be adapted to, and you stripped that away from people and threw them out on their own resources.
And they're expected to go out there now and find meaning for their lives and orient themselves in the world without recourse to a broader community or even a family.
And...
That's what needs to be rebuilt.
