We've come in the hopes of interviewing Tom about the unsolved disappearance of Nancy Baird.

This is not the reception I'd anticipated.
Normally when I'm trying to make first contact with someone for a story, I'll call or text, but I couldn't find a phone number for Tom.
He had no online footprint, aside from an entry on the Idaho Sex Offender Registry.
That piqued my interest.
I did some research and learned Tom was a twice convicted felon for sex crimes involving children, and I assumed he might not want to talk because of this.
Tom doesn't know me, and I half expect him to slam the door in my face.
Instead, he invites me inside.
His house is small and modestly furnished.
An air conditioner hums in the window.
We are a long ways away from East Leighton, the place where Nancy Perry Baird was last seen in the summer of seventy five.
The town where Tom Jackson spent the first half of his life.
Oh, I I lived in that area since high school.
Nancy grew up there too, and she was childhood friends with Tom's first wife.
