But then when he saw it, he said he wished he had.
And by all accounts, like by his own account, he loved that sketch.
So that was just, it's just one of those things where it's like, and the other thing about that Rick James sketch, last thing about it,
is Charlie made us show it to Eddie first.
So I'd never been to Eddie Murphy's house, but when we'd go, it was with his brother.
And Eddie has this big screening room downstairs, and he's sitting in like a big armchair with his back to us.
And no one's seen the sketch, so there's no laugh track on it.
Chappelle shot a real laugh track.
And man, he didn't laugh once.
and the sketch was like 10 minutes long and man I'm sitting behind with a pit in my stomach and then the sketch goes off and he doesn't even turn around but from behind him I see him raise his arms like this and then he turns around and goes it was a red couch and Rick had on capizios that's what he said
And he gave us the green light and he let us do it.
And to me, it's one of the greatest sketches ever.
It sure is.
You know what's funny?
When people ask me what the... To me, that was my favorite day of shooting.
Really?
I laughed more on that.
Not necessarily my favorite sketch, but those characters are the ones I revisit the most.
And it's not as fun to do without Charlie, but it's still fun to do.
And man, that was like Patrice O'Neal, who was a great, great comedian.
