UPS says its fleet of MD-11 cargo planes is expected to remain grounded through the peak of the holiday season because of inspections and potential repairs.
This follows the fiery crash of a UPS MD-11 in Kentucky earlier this month as it was attempting to take off from Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville.
The crash killed the three pilots aboard and 11 people on the ground.
The National Transportation Safety Board says the cargo planes left engine detached as the plane was attempting to get airborne.
MD-11s make up about 9% of the UPS fleet of planes and about 4% of the planes flown by rival FedEx.
