The chief of the Park Police says the officer was seriously wounded when the two opened fire on the officer as he was driving in an unmarked vehicle.

He says the officer was working on an ongoing Park Police investigation at the time.

No arrests have been made.

New York's LaGuardia Airport remained shut down this morning after an Air Canada regional jet collided with a fire truck on a runway late last night as it was landing.

Authorities say the pilot and co-pilot of the Jazz aviation flight were killed.

Some injuries are also reported, including serious ones.

There were 76 people aboard that jet at the time.

President Trump says he will send agents with U.S.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement to the nation's airports today to assist TSA officers.

Many TSA workers have been calling out or quitting their jobs amid the ongoing partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security.

And that's led to long wait times for passengers trying to get through security.

As NPR's Jennifer Ludden reports, the president's border czar was asked about the move.

The latest partial government shutdown began in mid-February.
