The government says that Huawei is responsible for a pattern of trade secrets theft going back 25, 26 years, stealing technology secrets, uh intellectual property from competitors, including and now these names are not in the indictment, but they've been previously reported, companies like Cisco and T-Mobile.
There are very specific claims in the indictment that a Huawei employee was caught sneaking photos at a trade show of the inside of a rival's networking devices, and that it paid a university professor to pose as a researcher interested in getting a company's memory devices so that Huawei could copy it.
Examples that the Justice Department says amounts to a long running criminal enterprise.
And that also Huawei violated sanctions against Iran by doing business in Iran and misleading banks about the extent of its business in Iran.
Huawei has said that this is a false narrative, that a lot of the charges have been recited earlier in civil lawsuits that have all been resolved.
The fact that the United States government is prosecuting a Chinese technological national champion.
is certainly an inconvenient thing to be going on when the two leaders are meeting in Washington trying to address a bunch of very thorny issues.
This is a huge win for Google and a big loss for the Justice Department.
Well, we know that the court disagreed with the Justice Department's request to break up Google.
That was the big ask from the Justice Department, and the judge said she'd agree to more restrained options for trying to inject new competition into this business.
Right.
The judge uh sealed her opinion for a week or two to allow the two sides to go over anything in there that's confidential business information.

We don't know her reasoning yet, but for the moment this is a huge win for Google, uh, and a big loss for the Justice Department.
This is a huge business that Google has dominated and frankly where it has created a lot of complaints and ill will from the website publishers that need to use Google's tools to manage the space that they have on their websites and their other digital properties for ads.
Well, if you are an antitrust hawk who thinks that to really fix excessive corporate power that you need to break up companies, then this is a huge setback.
There may be other means to achieve that goal, but as far as using antitrust law to dilute power and and scale the giants back.
It's proving hard to do that through antitrust litigation where the government is the plaintiff.
