And then I got promoted as uh as a finance manager at a car dealership.
And I stayed there for about three years and eventually migrated into the mortgage industry for a relatively new company called Novistar Mortgage, which was a well-funded startup effort that was taking advantage of kind of the emerging non-conforming mortgage market at the time.
This was 1997.
And I started in that company as a field-based.
Sales rep county executive, we called it.
Ended up working there for 10 years.
Uh, went through a bunch of different positions while I was there.
I kind of came up the sales track.
So I had a lot of regional and other sales management level positions.
Eventually got into a more general management position as an executive vice president.
And then ultimately uh became president of that company in 2005.
And that company was growing really quickly.
When I started, we had, I think maybe 25, I was one of maybe 25 salespeople.
By 2005, we had about 400 salespeople.
And when I was named president, I was responsible for about 4,000 employees.
I was 35 years old at the time.
So that was where I really got a lot of exposure to different leadership opportunities.
I had a fantastic mentor, one of the founders of the company who interviewed me when I got hired at the job, uh, kind of identified me as a high potential guy, kind of coming through his organization and gave me a lot of opportunities to try to get good at being a leader.
And
And then ultimately, you know, gave me the senior leadership role as president of that company.
