A quick few words to suggest a journey that, yes, my first interaction with franchising was as a 16-year-old in my first job at Burger King.

Did that through high school.

Never dreamed that franchising would come back to me.

But I went from there on to school at Universe Virginia, left there, went to Price Waterhouse, which is my finance part of me.

Got a call one evening at about 10 o'clock at night and said, how would you like to work for a Fortune 50 company and never do accounting again?

And I said, sign me up.

And that company was PepsiCo and more specifically Pizza Hut.

And Pizza Hut had just started delivery.

That was 1991.

And in 1991,

Starting delivery business, I think they really got in full force in the late 80s.

It was heavy growth.

It was exciting.

Pizza Hut went from a zero in delivery sales to a billion dollars in less than five years.

And I oftentimes tell people, if you can grab growth, grab it hard and just ride it.

And so it was a wonderful opportunity.

And my job was field finance and working with operators to improve margins.

I had no balance sheet responsibilities, but what that meant was I was in restaurants every day.

I got to learn the restaurant business.

I left there in 1994 and became the CFO for Great American Cookies, the cookie retailers in the mall.
