I think that is an accurate description of payment scams.
So you just have to be careful, especially with instant payments.
The banks really push people to say like, hey, don't use Zelle for someone you don't
No, don't buy a puppy online as one of their favorite examples from someone who claims to have a litter of puppies.
Really make sure you know who the people are.
They've started campaigns about, for one, they've set up roadblocks.
So if you're going into Zelle and you're trying to send money to someone you don't know, they're going to ask you if you have the phone number.
They're going to ask you for other data.
There are going to be multiple steps for you to get through.
They also want you to learn a little bit more about what banks would actually ask you and what banks would contact you if you have a problem at your bank account.
They are not going to ask you to sell yourself money.
That's not how a bank is going to operate.
So they've set up websites and information about, hey, if you have a problem with the bank, come to us.
This is how we're going to operate.
These are the things we'd ask.
These are the things we will never ask.
And if you're being asked these things, you're being victim of a scam.
So it's a lot of still buyer beware.
You should think of Zelle like you think of cash, really.
Once you send it, it is gone.
