Starting with a realistic picture, what can we get out of this process based on what is the US national interest?
And also recognizing we have the power of leverage, not just over the Israelis, which we seem to be using quite considerably.
And you know, that can be right in its place, but also over Lebanon.
We are the LAF's largest funder.
Uh Lebanon needs our backing.
We shouldn't treat this as if, just as we shouldn't treat the US-Israel relationship uh as if it's a relationship between equals, we certainly shouldn't treat it the US-Lebanon relationship uh as if it's a relationship between equals when the Lebanese have done a lot more.
I'm not gonna say the Israelis are perfect allies.
The Israelis bring benefit, right?
The Israelis can't stand up on their two feet.
Israel is, for all its flaws, a
Functioning democracy, strong military, they can get the job done.
And what everyone thinks of the war with Iran, look, they stood side by side with us as a competent military able to do, uh, able to execute its tasks.
Um, that is not Lebanon.
So Lebanon has a lot less leverage with us and its history of obfuscation and undermining even the agreements we come to them with.
You take the June 26th agreement, they've already started to walk it.

It's not legally binding.
