I didn't realize that.

But I just wanted more.

But it it was always a kind of pale imitation of other people.

And it wasn't really my voice that came out until I discovered like the whole principle of narrative medicine, the importance of the story.

And then finally the improv.

idea which really transformed the way I look at those interactions and think about them.

And I mean it still does every every time.

So I went into the room and things were underway and I didn't have the instructions.

And it was like a bad dream where you come into the room, you don't know what you're doing, and you're just forced to kind of go along with it.

And I've never been much of a performer, especially growing up.

I'd been a bit of a wallflower.

I would retreat when there were times when we had to do debate or singing in class.

I was, you know, sick or nowhere to be found trying to

get my way out of it desperately.

And so when we came in, I just felt all this performance anxiety.

Clearly we're going to be asked to do all of these different improv exercises.

People were already doing it.

And I didn't see the fun that they were having.

I just saw my own hesitation, if not terror.

And it was a visceral reaction.
