So then I watched the movie. matched

And yes, there was a lot of defying the gods, a lot of it. matched

And very specifically filtered through this specific concept called that they refer to as Zeus's law, which was sort of a version of the golden rule and sort of a version of a more ancient rule. matched

that was very directed towards hospitality, that you entertain a stranger because you might be entertaining gods, small g gods, unawares. matched

But it really, in the Nolan version of it, kept kind of morphing and growing into something akin to, adjacent to, in the same neighborhood as the golden rule. matched

And you just see serial violation of it after serial violation after serial violation with absolutely catastrophic consequences, just catastrophic. matched

And so people are defying the gods left and right. matched

And by defying the gods, I don't mean the literal Olympian gods because their existence in the movie is. matched

is really left open. matched

Odysseus has this vision of Athena, but is it really his conscience speaking to him? matched

Is it actually an Athena figure? matched

It's left very agnostic, but the consequences are not. matched

The consequences are horrific. matched

And you even see Odysseus lamenting matched

the conduct of the Trojan War and the use of the Trojan horse, which was his strategic idea. matched

And the movie flashes to the looting, the pillaging. matched

There's strong implication of rape in the destruction of Troy and the Trojan War. matched
