you, many others who have affirmatively resisted Trumpism, et cetera, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of people who've even had, aside from my very close friends, who have done anything voice-verified

at all to resist the actual cruelty that happens all around them. voice-verified

And that's a very big difference. voice-verified

And so what ends up happening is you get into this situation where people become even more entrenched voice-verified

and their refusal to engage in self-reflection because they feel aggrieved. voice-verified

So the people who are not part of the affirmative Trumpist movement feel aggrieved they've been lumped into it. voice-verified

The people who are part of the Trumpist movement feel aggrieved because they think they're completely right and righteous and do everything that they've done. voice-verified

And in all of that process, what is missing? voice-verified

Very little self-reflection and a lot of grievance. voice-verified

Now, the problem we have, Sky, is that if resisting it can be so difficult and hard that there's a billion reasons why a rational person won't do it. voice-verified

While they'll do the Homer Simpson thing and sort of recede into the bushes and just say, leave me alone, I'm gonna vote however I want according to my conscience and just leave me out of all of this. voice-verified

There's tons of reasons why you don't want to stick your head above the foxhole, so to speak. voice-verified

And part of it is we have a really hard time in the church separating out evangelicalism and evangelical culture. voice-verified

And there's a lot about evangelical culture that's not necessarily related to biblical Christianity, but is deeply, deeply embedded. voice-verified

And one of those things in the last 40 to 50 years is voice-verified

being a Republican. voice-verified
