I think on Friday night, I was listening to the show on Friday night, I think there was a kind of debate of what Lorne Shanklin would be worth to Hearts and was talking Β£5 million, Β£10 million.
Yeah, it's very unexpected, very unusual, I would imagine, that there's this kind of type of break clause within anyone's contract.
And yeah, and...
When I was thinking about it, I was trying to put myself into Hart's situation last summer and what they were.
They're obviously trying very, very hard to get Lorne Shanklin to extend his deal.
And this has clearly been the compromise.
Now, I'm sure the people at Hart's, Andrew McKinley, all the rest of them will explain what happened and why the negotiations went that way.
I suppose they maybe felt that guaranteeing the year of Laurence Shanklin was better than not having him at all.
And look, Hearts have had a great season.
They've qualified for the Champions League qualifiers.
So in that sense, Laurence Shanklin has undoubtedly helped him, Andrew.
But it is very, very odd that a player of his calibre and his status can now leave the club for next to nothing.
I mean, you think of the ones who have stepped in.
Jack Butland, I don't like goalkeepers being captains.
Marv, what do you think?
actually pay the money for a striker that has had that goal record it would be a big fee that they were looking at and all of a sudden they've now kind of saved that fee and can maybe maneuver that into a different area of the team 100% it just makes so much sense and that's why you know when obviously the clause came up they just had to do it in terms as well see those goals you're talking about Andrew how many times he scored against Celtic scored against Rangers scored in Edinburgh derbies he scores in big games
I mean everybody talks, I always feel sorry for Laurence Shackland when you think back to the Scotland-Denmark game because everybody talks about Kenny McLean, Kenny Tierney and Scott McDonnell, nobody talks about his goal which was actually one of the most important of them all.
Are you trying to say it was the best of the lot?
It wasn't the best but it was a very important goal and it was a poacher's goal, nobody talks about it.
So he scores in big games, he's a guy you can rely on and he's a good figure about the place and everything.
