halfway when they go through halfway um just over the arrow mark and then you're kind of going okay yeah possibly on for something here but from 30k on the pace just increases and like from 30 to 40k you're looking at running like a 27 10k uh from 30k to 40k in a marathon is just amazing and then to push that even further you're kind of going okay something something's on here
And the key thing as well I'd look at is a bit of that strength and depth.
You know, the quality of the top three athletes was really impressive at that point.
So the competitive instinct comes into it as well.
But to maintain that pace and then to go a little bit quicker, like you're talking about, you know, sub-14-minute 5Ks, sub-14-minute park runs, you know, at the end of a marathon is just incredible.
Yeah, look, I think if I'm right, it's probably about 10 years since we've seen super shoes kind of really impact the sport.
And the advancement over the last number of years has been colossal.
As Greg mentioned there, carbon coming into them.
Now,
carbon is probably the first thing that people kind of look at in terms of like the plate and the shoe and what it gives you but like the new the technology is so advanced now that it's the phones around that carbon is where we're seeing further advancements and the responsiveness and what you're getting back like there's a lot of brands who have been focusing in on this kind of two-hour um barrier for years and they've invested a lot of r&d into this in terms okay how can we get
something more you know that percent how can we find that and the latest shoe that a lot of them were wearing yesterday is um the lightness of it it's gone so light that's now given an awful lot more back to to the runners and when you kind of put that in over a marathon
every time your foot hits the ground, you're getting something back, you're getting something back.
And you add that up over a course of a marathon, it's quite substantial.
And we're seeing that across the board.
So, you know, the advancements on the road in terms of the shoe, we're seeing that now in terms of stadium athletics, in terms of the rubber that's on the track and, you know, what that has produced.
And so, look...
i'm not going to deny i have a pair of these myself and um do they make me faster i'd like to think so maybe not as fast as these guys but it's definitely something that um a lot of brands are really focusing because running now is going through a boom all over the world globally so a lot of the r d is going into who is going to have the fastest shoe and right now there's a certain brand from yesterday that seems to have had a very good day
Yeah, baking soda, just standard baking soda, sodium bicarbonate.
It's something that I used to use over 400 metres and back then a lot of research into kind of lactate and how it can help buffer lactate.
particularly around a 400, 800-meter kind of event, not really as much use in endurance, whereas now we're seeing, again, through research and a lot of sports science, which has massively improved, a lot of these athletes are using sodium bicarb.
