We see global migration throughout the world coming from the global South to the global North, right?

For a lot of the reasons, the inequality that you discussed, right?

And so these anti-immigrant movements and nativist movements that we see here are represented throughout Europe also.

I think uniqueness in that particularly our fascination with the border, again, the southern border, Latinos throughout the 20th century have been essentially become, or at least the very least throughout the mid to late 20th century and early 21st century, become the favored boogeymen.

But I want to go to this idea that you point out that these ideas that form the Latino thread aren't just random.

It's a cohesive set of beliefs.

And then you've made that connection to where

It forms into a narrative that is supposed to motivate people to action.

Can you talk a bit more about who is it supposed to motivate?

You talked some about politicians.

So what are some of the actions that politicians take being motivated by this type of narrative?

Yeah.

And some of it we discussed, right, they're trying to cover up really the failed policies, right?

The policies that have failed over the latter end of the 20th century as, right, the rest of the world caught up to the United States.

And our policies have failed, right, to, I think, right, respond in any ways, create the economy that everyone likes to think back to.

That's what America was great in the 50s and 60s, supposedly, I hear.

I mean, my dad talked to me about...

being afraid of nuclear annihilation.
