A quick warning there are curse words that are unbeeped in today's episode of the show.
If you prefer a beeped version, you can find that at our website, this AmericanLife.org.
what happened after that.
The thing you're about to hear, I got it courtesy of a college student.
This guy Henry Zhang, computer science and biochemistry at the University of Michigan.
He'd read some of the posts about people connecting chatbots to chatbots, and then over a weekend decided to try it himself.
It wasn't hard, he told me.
He took two Claude chatbots, let's call them Claude A and Claude B, then he wrote a little code that took whatever Claude A said and fed it into Claude B, and then whatever Claude B replied, fed that back into Claude A, etc.
So it was like they were talking to each other.
Then he just let it go.
He posted all this on the code sharing site GitHub, which I came across.
And I saw this little note he had posted.
It said
Most interesting run, number 080155.
And it was very interesting.
Especially given some of the AI news these past weeks.
More about that later.
These two chatbots were essentially trapped in a room.
And then kind of realized what was going on.
And tried to do something.
