And as you can imagine, if your main asset is underwater, in other words, you're losing money on it, you're not going to go out and spend, which is why retail sales are down in China.
And there are a huge number of issues there.
And they're kind of adopting this ostrich technique at the moment where they bury their heads in the sand.
and say, everything is fine, don't worry, look somewhere else, but I think there are some serious problems, Will.
But you know, Emily, as you get to know me a little bit better, you will understand that I'm a bit of a cynic.
And when I see these kind of things, the first thing that springs into my mind is artificial intelligence.
And I'm beginning to wonder if part of the reason why they don't want to talk about this urban employment, why they don't want to talk about the youth unemployment, which they reckon is around sort of 15% of 16 to 24 year olds don't have a job at the moment.
And I'm wondering whether or not
because China is going so heavily into AI, artificial intelligence, that there aren't going to be that many jobs created.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Well, they're really into that.
Did you see that robot, the one that tried to take a penalty kick and then just fell over?
It did the run-up fine, but I think it tried to do a panenka, but it didn't quite work out the way it did.
I know we're talking about World Cups again, but I think the problem is artificial intelligence.
But at least China, in some ways, is trying to be honest and saying that
We don't know whether or not they're going to be jobs created or destroyed as a result of this.
And so, therefore, we're not really going to be talking about urban employment anymore.
And maybe other countries need to be a little bit more honest as well and talk about how destructive AI is going to be for employment.
Like I said, Emily, once you get to know me, you know that I have this split personality where I can actually talk out of both sides of my mouth at the same time.
No, but seriously, they don't want to talk about it because I think they really don't know what is happening.
