We've seen similar incidents in the past.
Five years ago was probably the biggest one.
Over 10,000 people crossed over in a matter of days, overwhelming security forces on the Spanish side of the border.
And there are some indications that this crossing could be even bigger.
Ceuta is one of two Spanish enclaves in North Africa.
Although they're overseas, they're the only land border that the European Union has with Africa.
The population of Ceuta is around 80,000 people.
And it is obviously an attractive destination for migrants attempting to reach Europe because it's the closest that they have to Morocco.
In this case, in Ceuta, migrants were mostly arriving by swimming across from Morocco.
It's not such a long distance.
The main issue is that the Spanish Supreme Court ruled recently that they cannot be immediately deported back to Morocco once they arrive.
There is a specific procedure that must be followed by authorities so that their rights are guaranteed.
So there's a lot of uncertainty still regarding what will happen in the next few days.
But keeping in mind that this is a very small territory with a population of only 80,000 people, it is going to be very difficult for them to absorb these numbers of arrivals.
I felt that residents are very worried of the impact that this could have in the next few days.
And we'll have to see what happens to the migrants that arrived.
If they will be forced to return to Morocco or maybe move on to other parts of Spain.
That still is pretty much unclear.
