It was almost assumed that you would be able to do better than your parents.
You'd have a right that there was a there was an escalator going up rather than going down.
The fear now is that the escalator is going down.
Of course, wealth inequality contributes to that.
Income inequality contributes to that.
And so I think as well as the immediate short term about people not having the money for the holiday, not having the money for the extra things they want to do.
There's also a question about what kind of society, community, country is it going to be for the next generation?
So I think if people are debating that, that's a good thing rather than a bad thing.
I mean, my most recent visit was to Syria.
The country's been destroyed by civil war.
You ask someone
what's the future of Syria?
And they say, we've got a chance, we've got possibility.
And we always say, it's not hope that leads to action, it's action that leads to hope.
And so what makes me hopeful is people doing stuff.
They're doing stuff all around the world to try and make their lives better.
And that is very, very powerful.
Even in the midst of the most unspeakable cruelty and poverty and challenge, there are people trying to do things.
