So there's this terrible phrase which I heard the other month, the tribalization of pain.

And what it says is the world's becoming more connected than ever before.

We're in an interconnected world.

But somehow people are only seeming to care about people who look like them or pray like them or are like them.

And that's the danger.

And I'm all about common humanity.

My parents were refugees.

My mother's life was saved.

She's Jewish.

My mother, her life was saved by a Catholic family.

If they decided who to help on the basis of religion, she wouldn't have been alive and I wouldn't be here.

And what that Catholic family did was the opposite of the tribalization of pain.

And I think it's really important that we don't say that empathy is soft or that humanity is kind of soft and luxury.

No, it's what makes us human.

And I think that we have to stand up for the idea that whatever your race or your religion or your creed, you know, you're 99% the same.

And it's very important to me.

We're an organization that was founded by Albert Einstein in New York in the 1930s to rescue Jews from Europe, persecuted minorities from the Nazis.
