Cain Bag was coming back to win in 23, but he broke his hand at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, so again, came in not at his best.
But race are like an absolute maniac throughout the race.
I mean, even on the first stage he was attacking and there was no sense of he's going to ride himself in.
And sure enough, he couldn't stay with Jonas when the chips were down.
And coming to the third week, it was clear that Jonas had the better of him in the mountains.
But Pogacar would not give up.
I mean, he was just... And I remember watching at the time thinking, he is probably the worst...
most feared rider ever to have in second place at Tour de France because you know he'd rather finish 80th than finish second if it meant racing.
He would not stop racing and to the degree where in that final week he was doing Hail Marys, he was attacking on descents to the point he crashed himself.
And there was that moment where it's like Jonas comes off and they're like, oh, Jonas is so sporting.
Look, he's like waiting for him.
But it was just, I thought it was brilliant because it was, I'd never seen a rider in second place who was just willing to just literally go berserk to the point where he crashed on his descent, which he never does because he's trying so hard and he wasn't at his best.
And it just said so much.
And I think it was that for me was one of the greatest first and second place battle I've seen.
And also for himself, because he will take risks.
He'll put himself on the line to try and try and win, which I think, again, just shows so much about Pogacar.
I remember, going off on Pogacar again, but we'd watch, we were commentating then, and we'd always see, we'd have to do all the podium ceremonies.
And so we'd get the behind-the-scenes cameras and seeing things.
And Pogacar was in second place, he was in white jersey.
He always looked happy.
