Uh to help unpack these questions, I am joined by Laurent Rousseau, who is the CEO for Imea and Global Capital Solutions at GuyCarpenter, our Marsh sister company, and Aaron Baswich, head of insurance solutions within Mercer's Insurance Investment Practice.
Laurone, I'll start with you.
Um in August of nineteen ninety two.
Hurricane Andrew decimated South Florida.
It was the costliest natural disaster in U.S.
history.
It showed that the insurance industry had underestimated severities of hurricanes, uh exposure concentrations, and correlated losses.
Um, and it was transformative uh to the to the risk transfer market.
Can you explain how the market, the risk transfer market, has evolved?

So I'll go backwards just for a moment here and and and revisit cat bonds, uh, given the transformational nature that those instruments played sort of at the start of this risk transfer um evolution.
Aaron, would you mind summarizing what a cat bond is, who is issuing them, and who are the main investor sets for the asset class?

And and you know
Laurel, we've just heard from Aaron that okay, the CAP market, cat bond market has grown to 60 plus billion.
You know, what's fascinating to me is that, you know, that is less than half the capital that has been deployed in this risk transfer space.
So I imagine anyone listening to this podcast would have at least heard of uh of cat bonds.
