Authorities became very excited after a man who was arrested in Mexico confessed to the murders.

Authorities from Mexico called Austin police and excitedly told them that they had obtained this confession.

APD flies down there to interview them.

The problem is, as Austin police began studying the confession, many of the details did not match any details of the crime scene.

They didn't know the details of the crime.

They were false confessions.

Got your hopes up a little bit.

Like, somebody's going to be held accountable for this, finally.

And then they come back and said it wasn't them.

At the end of the day, there were something like over 50 confessions in this case.

hundreds of more tips beyond that.

There was much desperation, I think, in trying to find who the killers were.

There was posters, there was rewards.

You'd see the posters of the girls on the billboards.

There was a huge effort to try and solve the crime.

We know all there is to know, you know, about the, you know, about the crime itself.

Despite all efforts, there are no major breakthroughs, and more importantly, there are no arrests.
